"When We Were Young"

Since I live on the sea shore, it provides a gallery of ideas and snippets of life. When I was a little girl, my day dream was building sand castles on the sea shore. I didn´t see the ocean in real life until I was 25. It captured my heart and now that little girl is waiting for her friend to come and help her build the sand castle. Painted on Montval 140#, Pentel paints and a #12 round. 4" x 8."

"Untitled"

I decided to give this theme a go even though we are in a land-locked state!
I was wanting to try a mixed medium here with transparent watercolors and using Casein for white. I do like how it worked out, looks better than Chinese white or white gouache. Not as good as saving the whites of the paper but now I know I can use it for emergency use. It is on a scrap of Arches 140# about 6in x 8in.

"Deception Pass Bridge"

This is the northern way onto the Island I live on. I have painted this dang bridge over and over from a variety of angles and they have always landed in the trash can. The Seashore Theme was an excuse to go at it again. So I jumped right on it. I painted it 3 times, this time, before I settled for this one. It still has areas I would like to do over but I know from passed experience that I may do those things better next try, but other things will be wrong instead. I painted on a 15x22, 200 Waterford CP. I have been using a modified Jean Dobie Palette.

"Beach Memories"

I was challenged to do another painting. This was done thinking of how I felt when I saw the New Jersey beach for the first time. The waves seemed enormous to me and very frightening. Our art guild (www.laag-site.org) just received a donation of 3 cartons of art books and I just finished reading two books by Guy Lipscomb and Lawrence Goldsmith that encouraged people to experiment. When I started this painting I used masking fluid but before it started to dry, I sprayed it with water and loved the effect it gave in the waves.

"Sunset"

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the project. I am a beginning painter, starting with watercolor, and I haven't found my style yet. I'm experimenting with a variety of styles. This is a project done with poured color. I used Arches Cold Pressed, 140 lb. paper. I poured red, blue, and yellow onto wet paper. Then after the paper dried, I found a good section and added the boat silhouette and gulls. I scan some of my paintings, and then I create note cards using Microsoft Publisher.

"Early Morning Beach Stroll"

I'd like to enter the seashore project. Here is a painting I just did from a snapshop I took on Maui one early morning. A mother and children strolling the beach enjoying the water, light breeze and sunshine. It was done in watecolor full sheet.

"Untitled"

I've attached my contribution to the Seashore project. I have previously painted this guy as a distant figure in a beach scene in one of my web gallery shows. I decided this time to do it as a closeup view. This guy is not the avid sea bass fisherman that I am used to seeing on the beach. I think he is just using the term as an excuse to get out of the house and relax.

"Ship Yard at the Outer Banks"

This is a painting of a ship yard on the Outer Banks. Again I put little dabs of color here and there to indicate things happening. I also tried a river scene in Wisconsin but decided to go with this one.

"Untitled"

I would like to enter my first painting. I painted Block Island Lighthouse one of my Dad's favorite places to visit. We would sail there (usually in the fog!) almost every summer from Long Island, NY. It is painted on Strathmore 140 cold press. Thanks for your time you spend on this project.

"Untitled"

Here is my first painting for your project. I do not normally paint landscapes, but this project intrigues me, I am a fairly new watercolorist, still in 'training mode', though I believe we can spend a lifetime learning the craft. I find my escape from the real work in my art, and go there as often as I can. The painting is 1/4 sheet 140 lb aquarelle using W&N paints. Thanks for the oppportunity to submit.

"Moonrise Over Amelia Island"

Here's my submittal for the Seashore project. The painting was inspired from some of the many scenes and experiences we had while vacationing at the Amelia Island Plantation in NE Florida last week, not to mention the great view from our room. Painted on 140# cold press, 7"x10", with a Windsor Newton spit box.

"Fall at the Seashore"

Fall at the seashore. 12 x 14 painting limited palette windsor paints. View of Connecticut shoreline in the fall painting extracted from a photo reference Itook years ago. My goal was to use wet in wet and drop in colors on the main body of shore. The sky and water was drybrush and light lifting for effect, single stoke shoreline blended.
This was a fun project.

"Untitled"

Here is my first submission to your site which I love checking out. The painting is from a photo Itook on the beach at night in Sanur Bali where I live. It is 6x9 inches and I used W&N paints and coleman student paints.
Unfortunately when I took the masking fluid off the chairs the paper tore a little so that was disappointing but I did enjoy the process a great deal.

"A Michigan Lake"

This is a painting of one of Michigan's many inland lakes. It was a beautiful Spring day when I painted this, with only a slight breeze in the warm air. This is a small (7 by 10 inch) plein air painting on Arches rough paper, using Winsor-Newton paints. Thank you Maury for another watercolor challenge.

"Fishing the Northern Waters"

This is my submission for the Seascape Project. It is a rendition of a photo I took of a fishing trawler off the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia while on vacation there. It is entitled "Fishing the Northern Waters" and is painted on 140 lb. Arches Paper and is 12" X 9". I was much bolder with the colors than I normally use but I did like the results. Thanks again for a fun project.

"Caribbean Rainbows"

This painting is larger than I usually work, 15X20 inches, on 140 pound Strathmore paper, Windsor Newton paints. The whole thing was darker than I intended, and I wish I had placed the dive boat higher. Still, I think the rainbows turned out pretty well.

"Untitled"

I painted this at the very beginning of this project and almost didn't submit it (lack of confidence). I haven't been painting for very long and this is probably my best work so far. It is painted on Watercolour Board and measures 22" x 15". I used Windsor & Newton paints. I tried to capture the sense of solitude I have when walking along an empty beach.

Cindy Smith

"Untitled"

Living in Kansas City, I was having a hard time coming up with inspiration for a seashore painting. I recently returned from a trip to Italy, where I studied art for a month. I decided one of my photos from Venice might qualify as a seascape. The canals are saltwater after all. :) While in Venice I saw the Sargent and Venice exhibit and am inspired by John Singer Sargent's paintings.

I used a variety of blues (Cobalt, Ultramarine, Prussian, Cerulean, and Turquoise) and greens (Veridian, Hooker's, Olive) with the addition of Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Burnt Sienna on Killmanjaro natural paper (140# CP) 11" x 15".
