"Me!"

This was fun. I think this will be good to have prints made. The grandkids might like it in their rooms. 10x20" painting on Waterford paper and DaVinci watercolors.

"Untitled"

I've finished my "stuffed animal" picture and had fun. I'm not pleased with the background but the more I paint the more experience. Thanks, for the opportunity to join. The painting is on Arches 140 lb. cold press paper and Windsor Newton Watercolor Paints.

"Stuffed Frog Band"

This is 11x14 inches on Yupo synthetic paper. I used both traditional watercolor paint and watercolor crayons, which let me add some fine lines and also introduce pigment without moisture. I know most people automatically think of toys when you say stuffed animals, but taxidermy involves stuffed animals too. I've always been fascinated by little tableaus of animals, frogs, squirrels and so on. You see them like this, playing instruments, or seated at a table playing cards. I had a good time here with the Yupo, laying in a textured background that suggests watery things first, then lifting the frog figures out of the background.

"Best Friends"

This is my 37 year old original Pooh Bear given to me, by my husband, for my first Christmas present. He sits on my bed with Raggedy Ann and Andy that my Mom made for me a long time ago. They are indeed Best Friends as well as old ones. Painted on Arches 140 CP American Journey Paints.

"Gracie's Friend"

I am attaching my contribution to the project. I started painting last summer and am loving it. The picture may be too dark, if it is, I will get you another copy with more light on it. Just let me know. It was done as a 9x12 on 140lb. paper. I had no stuffed animals, but a friend had this one and leaves it with his dog when he has to put her in her cage. I am seeing all kinds of things to paint now as I drive around town. This was a fun project because I never would have painted a stuffed animal. I am looking forward to what everyone does and to the next project.

"Barney and Friends"

Attached is my entry for this project entitled "Barney and friends" This is an 11 x 14 arches paper with Winsor Newton paints. My granddaughter had these buddies on her bed. I decided I could sketch and paint them. I am still taking classes and enjoying them. Thanks again for this chance to challange ourselves.

"Emma's Favorite Toy"

It is entitled "Emma's Favorite Toy". She carried this stuffed fish everywhere. It was called The Gefilte Fish and everytime she bit down on it, it said, "Oy Veh". All day long I would hear, "Oy Veh" echoing throughout the house. I laughed out loud every single time. Emma was an 180 lb. English Mastiff who is now sadly gone, and deeply missed. Thanks for the opportunity to share this.

"King Octopus the First"

I had the wonderful experience of attending a wedding on Orca Island in Washington State, and found this crazy octopus in one of the gift shops. He's different from the normal "cuddly" stuffed toys. He tickles my funny bone! I painted him on Fabriano 140lb paper, using Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors. He is 14 x 19 inches. He's arrogantly sitting atop some pillows on my bed, so I have named him "King Octopus the 1st"! I totally enjoyed working on him. I have difficulty deciding subjects to paint. Your "Projects" does away with all the hours wondering what I should paint next. Thanks for the stimulating challenge.

"Stieff Antique Toy Kitty"

I found this many years ago in a garage sale...I think it must date from the 1890s to early 1900s.
Always liked cats, so I bought it. Watercolor on Aquabord 6" x 6".

"Stuffed Animals"

As I was pulling out my daughter's boxes of stuffed animals to set up for the project I sighed over the amount she had and thought, "how many animals can you stuff into a box". Then it hit me, this is the quintessential answer to the project: Stuffed Animals.
Strathmore Watercolor 140# 11" x 15"

"Carol's Piggy"

I like to do juicy watercolors and this is a bit more controlled but it works for the project. The pig was a good quiet and still model. Size...16 x 12.

"Attitude"

My wife and I have been married 52 years in August. We ride a 2003 Harley-Davidson Road Glide (100 year anniversary model). Our son lives 10 miles away and rides with us on his 2005 Harley Road King, much of the time. Our neighbor lady (Lori) gave me a "Bass Ass" biker Teddy Bear a few years ago and I still have it. It was my model for this project. I used watercolor with a small amount of acrylics for hi-lights. It is on Arches 140 pound WC paper. Paint is Winsor & Newton watercolor and Art Advantage acrylics. Size is 10" x 10".

"Untitled"

My dog Bailey would love to get his paws on this little beanbag monkey, which is off limits to him! Arches 9x12, W&N paints. Great fun...actually completed this early in January, which was a record for me with these projects; took me this long to send it.

"The Dubious Three"

This painting is 11 by 15 inches. On Arches cold press 140 watercolor paper. The painting is a limited pallet of three Winsor Newton paints: French Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna and Permanent Alizarin Crimson. I like working with a limited pallet as you have harmony in the painting. Different combinations give you many color possibilities. Thank you Maury for your interesting projects. Looking forward to your next one.

Rabbit, and Camel, and Bears, Oh My!

I spotted these stuffed animals while at a garage sale and thought they would make a cute painting someday. Then when I saw your subject for a project I had to sort through all my "TO PAINT" photos and found it. This was fun, and shows the little animals will have a second life.

"Emily's Teddy Bears"

While visiting my son and daughter-in-law in Norfolk, Nebraska I asked her if she had any stuffed animals. She retrieved the nurse bear with stethoscope and its friend from a box in the basement and I propped them up against some wine bottles in her kitchen then painted them using a gift box of Sennelier artist quality paints given to me by my cousin. I purchased some Strathmore watercolor paper and a set of taklon brushes that I purchased at Hobby Lobby and with the paints came up with this sketch of the two bears . Emily's Teddy Bears - Emily is a nurse - as is the larger bear so it seemed appropriate to have the one bear checking the heartbeat other one.

"Untitled"

Would never have thought of painting "stuffed toys" but it was fun. For the first time I used Bockingford 140 Extra rough watercolor paper. Paints were MaimeriBlu. Thanks again for getting me back to the "drawing board" Had a dry spell for a while.

"The Feeling I Knew the First Time"

Life is an interesting journey. The "Stuffed Animal" theme pulled me several ways, my childhood, raising my children, and loving grandchildren. I don't care how old one gets, you can't do without stuffed animals. These rabbits, and the teddy bear in the background, live in our guest bedrooms--my wife would say they are part of the decor, I would say they are the friends that welcome guests into our home. This painting is on Arches 140#, cold press, and is 22"x30". My pigments are mostly Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith.

"All Tuckered Out"

Here is "All Tuckered Out". It is tax season (I am a CPA) so I did not think I could do a winter project. But I walked into my daughters room (she is 23 and headed to graduate school) last week on a nice sunny spring afternoon and found (left to right) Monica, Lucky, and Leslie Tiger sprawled on her bed pillows. I knew I had to paint it so I did. I am pretty pleased. Painted on Arches 140lb paper with pretty limited pallete of Daniel Smith Cerulean, Aurelin, Quin Burnt Orange for Leslie and a touch of Neutral tint for noses and eyes.

"Untitled"

The painting is of a bear made form a one hundred year quilt and the doll is Toni doll from t he 1940s that
I received as a Christmas present when I was a child. I prefer Arches 140lb cold press and W&N paints, but I
am trying other things too.
