"Seattle Monorail"

Painted on a 15x22 sheet. I found this to be a major labor. So much so that I started with my island town (I decided it wasn't "city"), then to a traditional Seattle Skyline, and finally to this (after three tries at the scene). This is not the type subject I normally gravitate to but that is what drew me to this website last quarter.

"Untitled"

Leavenworth Washington winter street scene. This small Washington city adopted a Bavarian theme years ago. Enough resisdents from Bavaria have retired here that the culture and food has become fairly authenic. It has a reputation of being one of the most romantic spots in the country.

"Quebec City"

This is the lower city connected by road and a funicular. I walked up and road down that hill. This challenge reinforced the recommendation of artists in books and lectures to use a good quality paper. I used a less expensive paper the first time and was not happy with the results. This time I used Arches paper.

"Cityscape"

Attached please find my "entry" for this quarter's project. I simply took a picture of it with my digital camera. I would like to give credit to Georgia O'Keeffe for inspiration and to Earnst Haas for his photograph.
I would not have painted this subject if not for "The Project".

"Untitled"

I loved doing this small, somewhat abstract, painting. It is not something I would normally choose to paint and I found it to be great fun. It was done from a photograph and measures 14" x 7" on Yupo with W&N paint. It is the Philadelphia skyline, interpreted very loosely.

"Untitled"

My Cityscape leaves a lot to be desired what with buildings leaning over and blotches in the sky. However, it was fun to paint and I find it kind of fun to look at....can't be serious all the time. Hope it gives everyone a chuckle. It's the CN tower in Toronto by the way. I used Bockingford 140 for the first time and found it nice to paint on. Used mostly Winsor Newton paints and put some details in with Pitt artist pens.

"Trinity Church"

This was a sentimental journey for me. I worked on Wall Street as a young girl and strolled through Trinity Church yard on many a lunch break. NYC is a fascinating place to behold. Painting is 7" x 10: on Arches 140#, CP block with Holbein and Schmincke paints.

"Strolling the Sidewalks of Houston"

This is my first submission to the project pages--what a fun exercise! Before I began I wondered what in the world I would ever do with a city scape after it was finished. Now I've grown fond of it and think I may take it up and hand it on my office wall. There are so many peoples's stories to be imagined from this scene.
Arches cold press 140 lb., approx size 15 x 20, mostly W&N paints.

"LE CHATEAU FRONTENAC"

Here's my Cityscape project the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. It was done from a photograph that I took from the lower city in December 07. It is a 16" X 20", painted on Arches cold press paper 140 #. I used drawing ink and W & N paint.

"Cozy Inn"

This is perhaps more of a streetscape. I found the perspective very challenging. The end result measures 6.5" x 15", painted on 300 lb Arches. It's mostly Winsor Newton paint, but I also used a bit of white acrylic.
I love this sign, which dates back to the 1940's.

"Untitled"

This is painting of the Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic taken from an early mourning photo when the night fog was still evident. It is 11x15 on 140 lb Waterford paper, Daniel Smith paints. It was difficult in that it was my first attempt at a monochrome scene, but proved educational.

"Restaurant in Montmartre, Paris"

I used Winsor & Newton Watercolours. I was lucky enough to have a weekend in Paris a few weeks ago and this scene is taken from one of our photographs. It was an enjoyable trip even though it did rain a bit!

"Valley Junction"

The cityscape that I have attached is called "Valley Junction". It was painted on 9X12 Arches 140 lb cold press in Windsor Newton watercolors. Usually I am very tight with my painting. It's been a a huge challenge for me to loosen up. I soooo admire people who are able to use white space and loose stokes to create such beautiful art!

Sue Manson

"Untitled"

I was going to look through some photographs of NYC to paint but decided to use one of my own town instead. It's tight because I can't seem to loosen up when painting from a photo...and it's too cold to paint outdoors in Michigan's Upper Peninsula right now, maybe next month. Painted on an Arches block, 10" x 14".

"Oaxaca, Mexico"

I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks the first part of March visiting my niece in Oaxaca, Mexico. I took many pictures of this colorful and interesting area. This is a residential street in the heart of the city. The painting is 8 by 10 inches on Arches 140 pound paper using W-N watercolor paint. I usually do not paint architecture as this was a real challenge for me. However once I got into the painting I found it most interesting and fun. I am going to do more of this in the future. Thank you for this interesting subject.

"Cologne, Germany"

The painting is "Part of Cologne, Germany' painted on Canson 300 g 10x12 and Winsor Newton paint based on the photograph taken when I went to Germany in 1992. This is my second painting submitted to your project. All suggestion is appreciated.

"Mid-day from the Rooftop"

Please find the Jan_March 2007 project submittal attached. I had trouble getting started on this one. The final image is a typical scene in most large cities. A rooftop water tank and a cable suspension tower in the background. The painting was done on W/N CP140# paper (15"X 22") with mainly W/N watercolors and a touch of white gouache. Looking forward to the next project.

"Lunchtime"

Painting is based on a scene near our home in Kansas City. The geese congregate in some unusual places. I was inspired by the contrast of them feeding peacefully against the background of the busy fast food restaurants. Arches 140CP paper, 11" x 15".
