"Old House"
Attached is an image for January. Again thanks for your support of the watercolor community. This was done for my sketchbook. Sorry, couldn't go there on the RV.

"When the Cows Come Home"
I actually had last quarter's project drawn
but never got time to paint it...so this time I took full advantage of my day
off work and jumped in! The reference photo at first did nothing for me. Then
as I tried to focus on what the home was, it looked burned out, or vacant, in
poor repair...out our way, old abandoned homes are often seen very differently.
I relocated this home to a Kansas scene. Here it is not uncommon to see abandoned
farmsteads turned over to cattle ground, house and all! The cattle just move
on in and use the home for a shelter. It is sometimes a bit bizzare as some
of these homes are still rather furnished when the cattle come home....makes
one wonder what stories the walls hide....Of course there are some local legends
that develop around some of these homes. Size 8 " x 11 1/2"

I did this for fun in watercolors....still learning. ;) I am a china painting teacher by trade -currently teaching nationally. I usually do photographic type of work on porcelains. So, getting a little looser with watercolors was fun. I freehanded this as you can tell. ;) :) :) Should have used a ruler, but just have an real hard time doing that to a watercolor that I want to look loose. This is my take on the reference. I do hope to donate this for some Katrina Victims in Louisiana. Thanks for the challenge. ;)

"A Snowy Day"
Here is my contribution. I decided to do it as a snow scene seeing as its that time of the year. Watercolour paper 10" x 7.5" . I haven't taken part for some time due to being too busy, but always enjoy seeing the different styles. Thank you for the opportunity.

"Reflections on a Gas Light"
As a construction consultant, my first thought was to name this painting "Conflagration, the Best Solution" but I wouldn't want to hurt any cows. 7" x 9-1/2", painted on 140 pound cold pressed with Sennelier and Daniel Smith paints.
Josephine Strong
"Untitled"
I thought this old house would have some stuff growing on the roof, and wherever it wishes. Tough assignment for me. forgot to mention my painting was on Arches7x10 hot pressed watercolor block. 140lbs. Paints are Winsor Newton. Thanks, I needed that.

"Southern House"
Here is my version of this interesting photograph, which I have called "Southern House." It was done on 10 x 14 Arches 300 lb paper using Winsor Newton watercolors. I liked the lighting and angle of the photo itself and tried to recreate the "hard times" mood that it expressed to me.

"Untitled"
Got a bit lost with this one for a while but sheer strength and determination (ha ha!) carried me through. My first thought when I saw your picture was "Oh my word.......what can I do with that?" I ended up really enjoying the challenge.
I used 140 cold press Richeson paper......Winsor Newton paints.

"Hi Mom"
I loved painting this January--March project. It is painted on 7" x 10" Arches, 140 lb watercolor block with Schmincke pan watercolor paints.
Dorothy Wagner
"Forsaken"
Watercolor painting on 1/4 sheet Arches 140 paper. This was an interesting project.
Making the building look old was difficult for me. I wanted to create an atmosphere
of neglect and desolation for the building yet in a atmosphere of renewal.
Barbara Stephenson
"Resurrection"
11 by 15 inches Kilimanjaro 140 watercolor paper. Winsor-Newton watercolor paints.
It was a depressing old house --- so I decided to bring it back to life, and
endow it with some of it's previous glory. Whooooo. Its done. Thanks for the
challenge.

"Burned Out"
Here is my submission. I have not painted much lately. This was fun, but I think I went overboard with the dry brush.

Here is my contribution:
Down the river
Over the ocean
Hope for a new shore ....

"The Tire Swing"
"The Tire Swing" evolved when the tire on the trailor caught my eye. I then knew I had to put it on a rope and swing by a river for a while. It is painted on 300 lb. Strathmore cold pressed paper and measures 7 x 10 inches. Thank you for the opportunity to stretch myself beyond my usual subjects. I'm looking forward to your next project.
Richie Gunn
"The Walker"
Painted on arches paper 8x12, 140 cold pressed, windsor newton paints. This was a good project looking foward to the next one.
Rosemary Nulton
"The Empty Nest"
I love the Watercolor Projects and usually do them. This is the first time that I have gotten up the nerve to send a picture of one of my paintings. It is 9x12 and done on Arches 140 lb. rough paper. I used a variety of paints...mostly Windsor Newton. Thanks for the website, I really appreciate the work you do in maintaining it.

"Untitled"
I've attached my interpretation of the photo for this quarter. Although the old house or hotel is pretty long in the tooth, it still has some residents for whom this is home. I did this as a sketch in my sketch book on Strathmore 90# cold press paper.
Tom Rossman
"Untitled"
I used inexpensive Strathmore 140# paper and Daniel Smith paints since I was just fooling around, but ended up decent enough to send. I started the house too far left so used my imagination to add the fence and right hand tree to balance the scene. Thanks for your continued management of the "passion" projects.
Sallie Kratz
"Maury's Old House and the Doll House"
Since I have no idea where this house is...I thought it should be "Maury's Old House and the Doll House" replica next to it. I did this on 10" X 14" Arches Cold Press paper, using mostly Windsor Newton paints and some pen and ink outlines.. was just trying to try something a little different than my usual stuff.
Martine Thibault
"Untitled"
I've been visiting your website for quite some time, but never felt confident enough to send in a project. But this house was so inspiring, so I decided to give it a try. Used W. & N. watercolour, on Arches 140lbs. cold press; mainly cobalt blue, raw sienna, aureolin and antwerp blue, and a touch of windsor violet and brown madder. I enjoy your site very much, love to see how everyone interprets the different projects. Thanks.

"Spirits of an Old House"
I am sure none of you have ever had this experience but I am not happy about the way this turned out, or have you? I tried to express the existence of memories that must exist in this old house but got tripped up in trying to figure out where the sun was coming from. Here it is and I promise to do better next time, but.....
James Friars
"Abandoned"
First timer to your project site. Into watercolour about 2 years ago, mostly from library books. The house looked in need or repair so I thought I would leave the rv out and paint a weed growing up the lamp post and title it "abandoned" I used arches 140 cut to 7x 10. with cottman paints. The project is a great idea especially for beginers like me. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.
Debbie Covington
"The Homeplace"
I really enjoyed this project and it was my first. The size is 8"x11". I used Davy's Grey for the shading on the house, some Davy's and Payne's Grey for the shadows and/or shading, and a variation of browns, yellows, and greens for the remainder of the painting.
Maury Kettell
"Old House"
The old house is from a photo I took in Montgomery, Alabama. I sometimes wonder if there is a subject that isn't game for a painting--it is not that the subject is lacking, it is that the artist's imagination is lacking. I look at everything around me, trying to understand what I'm missing. This painting is on Arches 140# cold press, the size is 12" x 15".
Carol Hauserman
"Next Door"
Attached is the painting I am submitting for your Jan-Mar project. The size is 10 3/4 x 9. It was painted on 140lb Arches cold press paper with Windsor Newton paint and a few pen and ink strokes.. Wasnt sure just how to get into this picture. It looked like and old rental to me. However, with paint and a brush we can do anything. Thanks again for the opportunity to paint with everyone.
Frank Murphy
"This Old House"
I have attached my version of the Jan-Mar project. The painting is done on W/N CP 140#; size is 14" X 22", as always it was fun and a challenge.
