Attached is a watercolor painting for the Children Project. It is painted on 300g Waterford paper using Winsor Newton paints. This is my first attempt to paint my very first niece. Thank you very much for opening this channel for us to join.

The girl in pajamas with big hat was painted from a photograph of my daughter after getting into mom's dress-up box while standing on the front porch in Eagle Rock, California. I added a bit of acrylic paint to the edge of the hat and some white to the flowers but otherwise it is all watercolor paint. Painted on 140 pound paper using Daniel Smith paints.

Wow the summer is passing quickly. Hello to all the other artists.
Attached is my submission for Children. The painting is based on a reference photo taken many years ago when my children (now age 27 and 24) were about 5 and 2 years old respectively. I was always interested in how intently my daughter Allissa was staring at her brother (Steve) while he appeared to care less about anything. While I used a reference photo, I did the detail sketch by hand. I was determined not to simply trace the photo.
I am reasonably happy with the result. I did not, alas, capture Allissa’s profile quite right but I think the essence of the moment—his look of disdain contrasted by her fascination with him—comes across. Steve’s eyes are exaggerated a bit for emphasis, but only a bit. He has huge round eyes just like his mom.
The painting is 10x12 on Arches 140 lb paper painted with Daniel Smith watercolors. As always, kudos and many thanks to Maury. This is just a terrific site, forcing us sometimes to expand out of our comfort zone. You did it this time!

Well...I've tried and tried to paint children, with little success. Got my hands and arms mixed up. Sending you my final effort. Added some Micron pen work to liven it up a bit. Even though I found this project frustrating I am glad that you present such topics because they make me think, experiment, concentrate....all sorts of good "stuff". Must admit that I did have a weak moment when I considered kicking my dawg. 140 cold press...extra rough Bockingford paper. Maimeri Blue paints.
Looking forward to the next project.

"Amazed!"
Here's my contribution for this quarter. It's taken from a reference photo of my daughter at 22 months (now 29) when we were in Hawaii. She was awed at the splash and surge of the waves against the rock - I wish I could capture the sound of her 'ohhhh!' Delight, pleasure, awe, all wrapped in one word. Size: 13.25" x 9.75" on Arches 140lb cold press paper.

"The King of Croton Avenue"
Here's my entry for "Children". I used a snapshot that my Mom had taken when I was a kid. I wore a sailor suit in memory of my Dad who was in the USNavy.
It's me at around 5 years old. Size is 5"x7" watercolor on American Journey Cold Press paper.

"Cross Eyed"
Tried several times to paint children project and as a matter of fact
I am crossed eyed from trying. Have attached a fun painting and you all
have permission to have a good laugh, or two! Enjoy! 140 CP, American Journey WC and some ink pens.

"Gracie"
This is my youngest granddaughter, Gracie. This project was a real challenge for me. I don't have much experience with portraits, and am continually searching for what I want to do. I didn't really capture what I wanted with Gracie--her exuberant personality and high energy level got lost in the translation. Yet, I learned some things and maybe I can bring those lessons to my next portrait, wheneve that may be. Arches 140# CP, Winsor Newton/Daniel Smith watercolors.

This is our 2 year old grandaughter having fun with bubbles. The sound effects were the best but I couldn't send them along. The paper was Arches 140 lb, WN watercolor paints. It was fun. Thank you, for all you do for artists.

"Tan Man"
My oldest grandson, Tanner.

"Base Hit"
Children was the subject I decided I had to paint this picture of my great granddaughter playing t-ball this past summer. I had four snapshots and chose the second in the series. The title is “Base Hit”. I used a 9X13 piece of 140lb. Arches paper. I use mostly Winsor & Newton colors.

"Friends"
I have attached this quarters project, Titled "Friends" done on a half sheet of W/N 140# Rough a with mostly Da Vinci watercolors. I like doing these projects, because at times they help me move out of my comfort zone. Looking forward to the next challenge.

"Sublime Happiness"
This is from a photo of me hugging a kitten...only appearing to be squeezing the life out of it, while its mom looks on. I'm afraid I've rendered the car unrecognizable; and I wish I could have more accurately conveyed the sweet expression. Done w/Lowe-Cornell paints on a half sheet of Canson 140 lb. 10x15 paper. Thanks for this extremely difficult challenge!
