"Then and Now"

Many, many, many years ago I would have worn the pink stiletto no matter how uncomfortable. Today it is comfort I cherish. This painting is 5"x7". I used the color Opera and Gamboge Orange for the high heel. Thanks Maury this was fun.

"Romantic Shoes"

This project gave me an opportunity to incorporate other objects I have wanted to try painting, the pearls, rose, hand and satin along with the shiny shoes. It was painted on Arches 140 CP with American Journey watercolors.

"Untitled"

This painting is done on Fabriano 140 pound paper using Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton watercolor paints. The flip flops are a pair sent to me through the mail by my first cousin - she thought it would be fun for me to wear them to feed the chickens and perhaps have them nibble on my toes. I have been dabbling in watercolor now for about a year and a half and want to thank you for providing us an opportunity to share what we create.

"Home Shoe Repair"

Sure, it's tongue and check but It was fun to do. Most of my work is on the whimsy side of reality anyway, so I pushed this over the top. I like it and will probably frame it. ¼ Sheet Waterford 140 and mostly DaVinci paint.

"Untitled"

Here's my painting for the project. I have done this painting of my uncle's work boots. He states they are just broken in. I did this 11 x 14 painting on Arches 140 lb paper. I used transparent Winsor Newton paints. Thanks for this website. It is fun to attemp different subjects.

"Hat and Boots"

This "Shoe" painting is of an old gas station that fell into disrepair in the 1990's, but recently was moved and installed and restored in a nearby park. The hat was the station and the boots (there are two -- the other is painted differently and completely behind the one in the painting) are the restrooms.

Size is 10-1/2 x 9, why? Because that's the size of paper I had laying around. You might be able to see the Aquarelle Arches embossing of the paper in the lower right corner. It's backwards because I drew the sketch on the wrong side of the paper and was too lazy to draw it a second time. Thanks for the opportunity to share!

"Growing Up"

This was painted on a 1/4 sheet of Arches 140# Rough paper. I use Winsor-Newton transparent watercolor paints.
I love to paint shoes and strangely many people like shoe paintings.
Thank you Maury for again giving us an opportunity to broaden our painting horizons.

"Summer Shoes"

Painted on Strathmore 140 lbs. with Winsor & Newton paints.

"Summer Shoes" was painted from a picture of my friends feet. It was a very cool Fall day in the north. Having lived so many years in the south, sandals are my favorite footwear and I wondered why I hadn't worn mine.

"Foot Loose"

Color seems to have attracted my attention lately. I chose to do this painting with a great deal of color, forgettting what the original subject colors were about. There is a certain freedom that comes with a departure from realism, but I wonder if one could get mesmerized and forget how to make a realistic painting. I wonder if you could descend into a purgatory of non-representational work that demands nothing other than the ability to do strange stuff. Painted on Arches cold press, 22" x 30"..

"Kinky Boots"

My friend Rich Fletcher photographed these outrageous platform shoes in a Chicago shop window. I wanted to capture the shiny and colorful shoes, and also the reflections on the glass. This was lots of fun, because I painted fast and loose, and was able to easily lift out highlights. 12x12 inches, watercolor on Yupo synthetic paper

"Dancing Shoes"

Attached is my submission for "Shoes". The painting is titled "Dancing Shoes" and is inspired by a song of the very same name. The late (too soon) Dan Fogelberg's Netherlands album contains a hauntingly beautiful love song titled Dancing Shoes that I actually have learned to play on the piano (my other love). I borrowed a pair of ballet slippers from a friend who runs a studio. Painted on a quarter sheet of 140 lb Arches cold pressed paper using Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith paints while Fogelberg played in my head.

I am a relative newby, this is only my second project painting. It was a great challenge. Took me a while to find my inspiration and then I painted it twice. There is a certain comic madness to all this. Now I cannot wait till the winter quarter project.

Any comments would be most welcome. Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season and new year to all the artists who contribute to this site.

"Untitled"

This is my pair of shoes, they look comfortable when I bought them but they are not. So things are not always as they look. I have been away from watercolor for a big while so my watercolor is back where I begin.
